연극 강철왕 - 리뷰 (Eng.)

“부모는 나를 낳았지만 나를 양육하지 않았고, 사회는 나를 수용했지만 나를 도태시켰으며, 세상은 내게 욕망을 갖게 했으나 해소할 수 없게 만들었다.”
올해 본 연극 중 가장 인상적인 연극은 고선웅 작, 연출의 강철왕이었다. 화려한 무대와 노래, 가벼운 농담으로 가득찬 작품이 대세인 요즘 이 작품은 신선한 충격이었다.

“Parents bore me out but did not bring me up; society housed me but weeded me out; the world made me have desire but didn’t leave me to attain it.” It is my favorite line of the play.
The most impressed play was ‘강철왕’ written and directed by 고선웅. It was shocking to me who had been tired of seeing romantic comedies like ‘farce’.



무용수가 꿈인 주인공 왕기는 공장 사장인 아버지로 인해 어쩔 수 없이 공장에 나간다. 아버지와 세상이 주는 스트레스 속에서 고뇌하는 왕기를 해고된 노동자들이 인질로 잡아 열처리로에 가둔다. 이때 열처리로가 작동해 버린다. 왕기는 몸이 단단한 ‘강철’ 덩어리가 돼 간다. 하지만 여린 마음만은 그대로인 왕기는 극단적인 선택을 통해 스트레스에 숨 막히는 현대인들의 고통을 외친다.

The hero 왕기, whose dream is a dancer, goes to work to his father’s factory because he was forced by his dad. He suffers from stressful reality at all times. One day, workers of the factory shut him in a big machine as a hostage when they got fired. At this time, the machine malfunctioned and 왕기 have changed to a steel-made man. He, whose inside is still tender and delicate, makes shch an extreme decision that he bursts his, or all modern ppl’s stress.

 

일단 블랙의 이미지와 특별한 사실적 꾸밈 없이 비워둔 무대가 눈에 띈다. 거울과 조명 등의 효과가 작품의 상징성을 더한다. 위트넘치는 말빨은 웃다가도 감동을 주고, 전체적으로 흥미롭고 박진감이 넘친다. 잠시도 눈을 뗄 수 없다. 다만, 쏟아내는 대사량이 너무 많고 빨라 전달이 잘 안 되는 부분도 있어 살짝 아쉽다.

At the first sight, an empty stage covered with all black images captured my eyes. Scenic effects like mirror and lighting intensify the symbolization of the themes of the play. Mr. Ko’s eloquence that is full of higly-speedy wit gives audiences both joy and sorrow. You might can’t take your eyes off it, only its lines are too much and too speedy.




우리의 이야기라 그 강철의 딱딱해짐을 관객 모두 느낄 수 있다. 눈시울이 붉어져 춤추는 그의 모습에서 억눌린 우리의 영혼도 그와 함께 춤추게 된다. 극장에서 일어나면 다시 스트레스의 세계로 돌아가야 하는 우릴 위해 속시원한 말빨대포도 쏘아준다.

I’m sure that anyone seeing this play should feel ‘the hardening of one’s heart ’ from the bottom of one’s own heart. You will find you are dancing with 왕기 inside your mind at the scene he dances in his tears.
